Biblical Interpretation from Someone with no Training in Biblical Interpretation
Being a Christian is easy. Keep in mind I’m the dude who posts about all the rules and regulations from the Law. But seriously, it’s really easy being a Christian. From salvation all the way until heaven being a follower of Christ isn’t very complicated. In this series we take a look at some of the main aspects of being a believer through stories of Elisha the Prophet. As a little background, Elisha was a prophet during the period of the two kingdoms of Israel. He was a prophet to the northern kingdom and basically was the head seer at the time. While reading his adventures we can learn more about just how simple the Christian life is.
In the First Part, we look at the topic of salvation, the most important part of your walk with Christ (because it’s when it starts). This article deals with the fact that becoming a follower of Jesus is ridiculously easy. In fact, it’s so easy to be saved that a lot of people find it hard to believe. However, just like Naaman found out when Elisha healed him; yes, it really is that easy.
The Second Part deals with our relation to God through prayer. In John 14:13-14 Jesus says, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” Sound too good to be true? Of course it does. But guess what, our prayer life really is that easy. If you ask the Lord in faith, he’ll answer your prayers (pending you’re not being too selfish about it [check out James 4:2-3 for more information about that]). In this article we can see stories of Elisha doing what Jesus does, helping people who ask him.
Lastly, Part Three covers some things that we’re given access to through coming to Christ for forgiveness. Namely, these are the Lord’s strength and wisdom. Sure, you might have some bad days, but you won’t be alone and it sure as heck won’t be for naught. As far as the story is concerned, Elisha has angered a foreign king, who sends a whole army to capture him, check out how he deals with this trouble and how we can deal with our problems on a daily basis.
It’s real easy to get the wrong impression about following Christ- especially if you’ve been reading Leviticus, Deuteronomy, or James. However, when it gets down to basics, the Christian walk is really quite simple. Take a look at the articles, and more than that: crack open a Bible and find out that I’m not lying when I tell you, “Yes, it’s that easy.”
