About The Layman’s Bible

Hello I am Allan Johnson, and welcome to the Layman’s Bible.  You may ask yourself, “Why is it called, ‘The Layman’s Bible?’”  The name is what it is to make sure that you know that I am not a member of the clergy.  I’m just some guy writing about the Word of God.  This blog has come about due to the Holy Spirit opening the Bible up to me as I read it.  As I read, sometimes one passage will suddenly connect to other passages and develop into a larger message.  This is both a thrilling and very educational experience.  However, if I don’t write down what God tells me, I’ll probably forget it by the next day.  So, after I first started getting into the Word and the Holy Spirit started showing me cool things, I began to write them down.  This blog not only helps me to share what I learn with the outside world, but also motivates me to keep writing down what God is teaching me.

Pic2I’m always reading the Bible (I try to read two chapters a day) and as such I’m always being taught more new and interesting things by God.  And anyhow, Jesus tells us in Mark 16:15 to, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”  So through this medium I am not only delighting in the gift God has given me, I am also doing what I can to further his kingdom.  I hope you enjoy what the Lord shows me, I take little credit for myself as often once I get started, the pen has a mind of its own (as do my fingers when typing).  If I come off sometimes as a nutty crackpot, I suppose that comes with the territory; however, I will try to keep the crackpot stuff to a minimum.  I hope that you find these posts to be insightful, educational, and even entertaining.  If not, then pray that the Lord improves my ability to write.

You might notice that some of the older posts have different formats; I assure you that this is  not of some sort of split personality.  Some of these posts are from writings I had done long before I ever thought of starting a blog, so their styles reflect the times in which they were originally written.  Also, sometimes I just like to mix it up based on the contents.

Alright, onto some housekeeping notes:
-WordPress recommends that I tell you when I update; generally speaking, I try to update on  Saturdays my time.

-I might not respond to every comment on the blog.  Please do not feel insulted if I don’t answer you.  However, I do read every comment that comes through (as WordPress automatically has me moderate comments) and so you can be assured that whatever you say to me, I am reading it and thinking about it.  I do encourage you to comment or discuss with others on the blog about posts.  If you have a question, maybe someone else or I will be able to answer it, or perhaps in the future I’ll do a post that addresses your question (it’s happened before).

Anyway, thank you for stopping by, take a look around.  I hope this can be a useful/interesting place for you.

Rock on God!

Greetings @The Layman. I was afraid that this blog was no longer updated again. I have searched far and wide for your email address but found none.

Please, I would love to use an image from your website but I need your permission to do so. Of course, it would be referenced back to you and this website.

I hope you give me the permission to do so. Thank you.

By the way, the article was long but a lovely read. Helped me understand that part of the bible from a different perspective. Thank you so much.

Hello! Sorry for my late reply, things have been busy and I forgot, lol.

Thank you for the compliments on the article. Unfortunately, I am not the originator of the image (as awesome as it is). I just found it on Google; so unfortunately you’ll have to look there too.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help

Hello – I just came across your website. I have been considering writing a book called The Layman’s Bible, but it is much different from what you have been doing. Mine is more of an overview of biblical concepts than my explanation of books of the bible. Would you be ok if I use the same title as your blog?

Although I’m not entirely opposed to the idea I think it would be better for you to utilize another name. Aside from this site there are quite a number of Bible study books/encyclopedias using the “Layman’s Bible” name. In fact right after I started this site I learned about a book with that name. I checked again today and found several different books/series with the same name- so it might be better to use a different name, lol.
